Kevin Starr, originally from North
Carolina, studied piano performance at the East Carolina School
of Music. He moved to Savannah in 1980 where he opened The
Riits Salon voted locally as the best in Savannah. The salon
was also used as an art gallery that included a large personal
collection of artwork. Before moving on to other creative
endeavors Kevin was one of the most respected and accomplished
hair stylists with work printed in national and international
magazines. After 15 years of owning the salon and 20 years as a
stylist the creative challenge for him began to fade. He and a
fashion photography major at the Savannah College of Art and
Design teamed up to begin producing photographic images for
advertising campaigns for the Salon. This opportunity allowed
Mr. Starr to have no creative boundaries in styling, hair
coloring, and make-up on the models. After several years of
artistic collaboration Mr. Starr taught himself the art of
photography and began photographing his own images. He
has on-going exhibitions at art galleries and fine dining
restaurants, and his photographs appear in publications.
He moved back to North Carolina where he published Rift
Magazine focused an arts and creative writing for a year.
Mr. Starr now paints full time, photographs, and curates
art exhibits at local theaters and restaurants
